Recognising the importance of sustainability in construction

At BOOT Construction we recognise the negative impact construction practices have historically had on our planet. That’s why we stand tall today in our efforts to ensure our work leaves a positive impact on the world we live in.

Here, Vicky Norris, explores the sustainable steps we’re taking to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage more environmentally friendly practices among our clients.

Recycling

We are committed to implementing comprehensive waste recycling schemes across all our sites – no matter the scale of the project.

That’s how we have achieved an average 85% of construction waste being recycled on our sites, reaching as high as 95% on a recent project for Suffolk County Council at Riduna Park.

Together with recycling our waste, we also strive to use sustainable and traditional construction materials where possible – including high quality and responsibly sourced timber.

We always liaise with our clients from the onset of the tender stage to share our expertise on the most suitable and environmentally friendly materials for a project – not only helping the planet, but their energy consumption too.

Decarbonisation

As businesses around the world look to reduce their carbon footprint, it is no surprise decarbonisation projects are increasing in demand.

We continue to support Suffolk County Council in their efforts to become carbon neutral by 2030 and are proud to have worked on decarbonisation projects through the Suffolk Construction Framework.

This has included our recent project at Suffolk Highways’ depot in Rougham and works at Paddocks Primary School in Newmarket.

Our work at the school, which saw cladding, insulation and windows and doors replaced with more energy efficient alternatives. In all, this work helped minimise air leakage and gas usage – saving the school kg of emissions per year.

Looking to the future

We recognise all of us can do more to combat climate change and our team remain committed to making further progress in advancing our sustainable practices.

Through our concerted efforts, we continue to set high standards and remain steadfast in our pursuit of a greener, more sustainable future.
