St Edmunds RC Primary School

Children at a Suffolk school were given a new place to play and learn thanks to a BOOT project.

We were tasked by Suffolk County Council, on behalf of the Roman Catholic Diocese of East Anglia, to create a new multi-use games area (MUGA) at St Edmund’s RC Primary School.

The project aimed to create a new dynamic space for the children to play – and to promote more active lives which boost their health and wellbeing.

We worked closely in partnership with Concertus to locate the best location for the MUGA that maximised accessibility and utilisation to encourage its regular use. The MUGA also had to meet stringent safety standards to ensure complete compliance.

The project was completed during term-time – and while the main playground remained open – meaning it was essential all safety procedures were put in place.

We were keen to maximise pupil involvement throughout the project and organised on-site tours which helped school council members feel more involved in the exciting development.

The finished result is a bespoke area which enhances the school’s sport offering and promotes physical activity among children.

We hope pupils continue to enjoy the MUGA for generations to come.
