Meet the team: Contracts Manager Ashley Davey

Experienced Contracts Manager Ashley Davey has been instrumental in the growth of BOOT in recent years.

Ashley joined the BOOT team in 2016 as a Site Manager having previously worked his way up the ranks at another local contractor.

A carpenter by trade, he had shown a flair for his craft from a young age, winning trade competitions as a carpentry student before cementing his place in the industry.

He said: “I’d always been around the construction industry, a lot of my family worked in the trades and growing up I spent many weekends working on jobs with my dad. I got a lot of exposure and invaluable experience.

“When I was little I wanted to be a police officer, but the more time I spent around carpentry the more I enjoyed it and discovered a passion for building.

“I was lucky enough to secure a carpentry apprenticeship straight from school with a local construction company, studying at Suffolk New College.

“From my first day I had a career path in mind. I knew I wanted to get into site management and eventually progress into contract management role.”

After climbing the career ladder from carpenter to Site Manager elsewhere, Ashley found his perfect next step in a job listing at BOOT for a Site Manager.

He said: “Paul and Vicky were looking for a Site Manager with ambition who wanted to grow with the business. It was the perfect match.

“I’ve had lots of proud moments since then such as winning an SJCC Award for Best Site Manager in 2017, working on BOOT’s most prestige projects and earning my promotion.”

Ashley was promoted to Contracts Manager in 2020 in recognition of his stellar work and dedication to providing the highest quality service.

Some of the projects he has managed since promotion include the construction of a new modern sawmill facility, a bespoke dream home on the Suffolk coast and numerous education projects across the county.

He added: “I love this role. There’s a wider range of responsibilities from ensuring we carry out all of our work to the highest standards, while working on tenders and liaising with our clients, contractors and architects on a regular basis.

“I especially love learning the story behind each project at tender stage and making those dreams reality as we deliver. It’s a great feeling knowing you’ve worked on a project from beginning to end and have delivered something that genuinely makes a difference to people’s lives.

“As BOOT operates across all sectors there’s so much variety with a number of high end, bespoke residential builds, major commercial and education projects.

“I like the freedom the company gives me. They trust me and back me to achieve my goals, which has really helped me in my career.”

Outside of work, Ashley is kept busy with two young children, household projects and when he has a chance, enjoys a spot of clay pigeon shooting.
